Dr. Theodore D. Laughlin - Prominent Area Physician

Dr. Theodore (Ted) D. Laughlin passed away peacefully on April 1, 2015 at his home in Pace, FL with his wife by his side. He was 82 yrs. old.
Dr. Laughlin was born in Elwood, Indiana on Jan. 18, 1933, the seventh child of nine, affectionately known as "Nine-O'-Mine".  At the age of 11, he moved to Orlando, FL with his family but had a lingering connection to Indiana.  After graduating from St. James High School in Orlando, Dr. Laughlin returned to Indiana to attend the University of Notre Dame from 1951-1955, where he earned his B.S. in Pre-med. He then attended medical school at Georgetown University from 1955-1959, where he met and married Marjorie Williams. He did his internship and residency at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, GA from 1960-1963.  
Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Laughlin served for 2 years as an OB-GYN specialist with the U.S. Air Force at Eglin Air Force Base. He then practiced in Orlando for a short period before returning to Ft. Walton Beach, having fallen in love with the area, in 1967. He began his OB-GYN practice at White-Wilson Clinic and then started a private practice in 1973.  Dr. Laughlin was a prominent physician in the FWB area for over 30 years. He delivered 3000 plus babies, held numerous positions on the boards of the FWB Hospital Staff and Okaloosa County Medical Society over the years, and was instrumental, along with several other area MDs, in bringing the new General Hospital (now FWB Medical Center) to the city in 1974.
 Ted Laughlin is survived by his wife of 37 years, Marsha Laughlin and 4 of his 5 children, (Ted, Jr.-deceased), Kathy Lessley (Mike) of Birmingham AL, Kevin (Kristina) of Alpharetta GA, Erin McAtee (Stuart) of Birmingham AL, Brian of Biloxi MS, and step-son Brandon Broxson (Barb) of Tampa, FL as well as 4 of the Nine-O-Mine siblings: Martha Heidrich, Dorothy Meagher, Patsy Banks and Don Laughlin.
A time of visitation will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road, N.E. Fort Walton Beach, Florida,
A Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at Saint Mary Catholic Church, 110 Saint Mary Avenue, Fort Walton Beach, Florida interment will follow at Beal Memorial Cemetery, Fort Walton Beach, Florida. "In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to the American Heart Association."
